
Floating Walkway
We will start the day with a small nature walk on a floating walkway on Smithville Lake. This walkway gives you closeups of the lake’s ecosystem that you would have a hard time exploring from the shore.

Glen Foerd on the Delaware
Glen Foerd is a historic mansion and estate located between Trenton NJ and Philadelphia. The mansion (first named Glengarry) was built as a summer home in about 1850 in the by Charles Macalester, Jr., a prosperous businessman and banker.

The mansion sits on the banks overlooking the Delaware River. In 1893 the mansion was purchased by Robert H. Foerderer, a U.S. congressman and industrialist, who gave it its present name. Today, the estate is operated as a historic house museum, and the grounds are a public park. Glen Foerd was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Our visit to the mansion is self-guided. The Visit includes access four floors of the house, where pieces from Glen Foerd’s historic collection are on display alongside installations by artists in residence. You will find QR codes placed around the property to provide you with both audio and text information while visiting.

Burlington County Prison Museum
Visit the Burlington County Prison, this prison is a historic museum property that was operating as a prison from 1811 to 1965, it was the oldest prison in the nation at the time of its closure.

The prison is relatively small, it was originally designed to house approximately 40 prisoners, but it held over 100 inmates when it closed in 1965. The prison was opened as a museum in 1966 and was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1987.

You will explore the museum on your own with an audio guide tour. The audio tour is available in both English and in Spanish.

Pennsbury Manor
Explore Pennsbury Manor, this is the colonial estate of William Penn, founder of the Colony of Pennsylvania, who lived there from 1699 to 1701. In 1701 William Penn returned to England in 1701 where he died broke in 1718. Following his departure and financial woes, the estate fell into numerous hands and disrepair.

In 1932 the property was donated to the state of Pennsylvania as a site for a permanent memorial to William Penn. Since 1939, a reconstructed manor has stood on the original property, and it has been a house museum ever since.

In 1969 the property was placed on the National Register of Historic Places, and it is administered by the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission and the Pennsbury Society. You will receive an indebt guided tour, and learn all about William Penn and the estate

You will also find a large visitor center including more exhibits about William Penn’s and many fun and hands-on activities. And there is also a souvenir/museum store.
