Russell Brook Falls
On this tour, we will spend most of our time in the southern parts of the Catskills Mountains. We will visit the very beautiful Russell Brook Falls; we will reach the falls by indulging ourselves in a short hike through the forest.
Catskills Fish Hatchery
New York State operates 12 fish hatcheries which they use for stocking millions of freshwater fish into more than 1,200 public streams, rivers, lakes and ponds across the state. We will visit the Catskills fish hatchery; this hatchery specializes in rearing brown trout and produce about 115,000 pounds of brown trout annually.
You will have amble time to walk around and explore the hatchery.
On this tour we will enjoy a picnic lunch.
Time & Valley Museum
We will visit the Time and valley Museum in the Catskills Mountains, this museum connects Water, People, and the Catskills. The museum features 3 floors of interactive exhibits and a 1930s Lost Catskill Farm. Receive a guided tour and learn about the local history of the region, and about the history of NYC's Water Systems and the sacrifices made by the local residents to provide New York City with clean water.
Most people in NYC don’t think about where their water comes from. 90% of NYC’s water comes from the Catskills. Here is a photo from 1939 of the Delaware aqueduct being built to provide water for NYC. (This is still the world’s longest tunnel at 85 miles long) You will learn about this at the museum. Beautiful Waterfall
On the way back we will stop by a beautiful 65-70 ft waterfall, we will reach the waterfall by another relative short hike.
To keep this waterfall pristine and tranquil we will not write the name of this waterfall here, and it is not to be found neither on Google map or the popular Alltrails app. We would like to keep it not well-known. Too many beautiful natural areas have been ruined by being shown on social-media and the after following overcrowding.
