On this tour you will experience 6 different beautiful places around the Delaware Water Gap, which is a National Recreational Area. We will indulge ourselves in 3 shorter hikes, visit one historic Village, a stop by the Delaware River and experience the tallest waterfall in New jersey.
Hornbecks Creek Trail. (2.2-Mile RT 100 ft elevation)
This is the longest hike that we will do today, a hike on a relative flat trail through a beautiful forest. The path is very well groomed and has several of water crossings by way of well-constructed bridges & walkways.
At the end of the trail, we will find a beautiful cascade falling into a pool of crystal-clear water.
Tillman Ravine Trail (1-Mile RT 200 ft. elevation)
This is another nice, pristine and very tranquil trail by a creek. The hike is overall easy with some slightly steep sections.
Buttermilk Falls
Buttermilk Falls is the highest waterfall in New Jersey at 85-ft. There is no real hiking involved to visit this waterfall.
Next to the waterfall there is a staircase that you can ascend to a viewing platform to experience a different viewpoint of the falls.
We will enjoy an outside picnic lunch on this tour.
Millbrook Historic Village
Millbrook Village is an original and re-created historic village. It started when local farmers who took their grain to the grist mill that began operating in 1832, a few years later a blacksmith shop and general store had been built near the mill, and soon other tradesmen opened businesses as well and Millbrook was born. Just after the Civil War the village reached its peak of 19 buildings and approximately 75 residents.
You will have ample time to stroll around in the village and stepping back in time. Sometimes volunteers bring the town to life by demonstrating different workman’s skills.
Van Campen Glen Trail 1.1 mile 164 ft to Upper Glen Falls
This is an easy to moderate out and back trail that winds closely next to a section of the Van Campen Brook.
The trail features several cascades and waterfalls, we will hike to the nicest one.
Delaware River
We will stop at a grassy day use only recreational area in the Delaware Water Gap, even though it probably will be too cold to take a swim, you can enjoy the nice views of the river.
Do you suffer from Portaphobia? (An insurmountable fear of portable toilets)
In the area that we will travel on this tour and many of the stops that we will make for the day, the only toilet options will be porta potties. If you suffer from portaphobia, this tour might not be for you.
We will drive back to NYC.
Arrival back to NYC at approximately 6:30 pm.
